ALMATY INDIE FILM FESTIVAL
Snow Shelter
Overview
Frigid winter in a war-devastated, present-day city. Several years have passed since the destruction, and the city is slowly rebuilding. A thirty-year-old guy is living as a squatter in an apartment with a group of strangers. He struggles to survive and also to find a little more comfort in this rough setting. One night he nearly burns the flat down, hoping for a warmer sleep. His roommates start hating him, so the guy has to find another shelter.

Director Statement
The story happens in a war devastated country. This is infused by the latest events in Ukraine, France, Belgium, Middle East. We see a lot of NATO military gear running around the country. Fighter planes buzz over our heads every day. This makes me think what would happen if war conflict would burst out. We would be living in a front line. So this film is some kind of reflection of my fears.
Then there’s another, more intimate part of the story. It reflects this period of my life. I’m thirty-something, Lithuanian economy grows and the standard of living is getting better. Human values are shifting. We think about new flat, new car, new phone more often. We gather into groups less. We don’t help one another, we don’t need no help from other people. There are institutions which can help, people have no time. What if all of us would become homeless? Would we gather or would we destroy one another for limited resources.
